Smell the Roses--Art Quilt

(Smell the Roses, Art Quilt, Neocolor II, Crystals, 8" x 10")

Sometimes one can get caught in the whirlpool of responsiblities, projects and goals and forget to take some time to "Smell the Roses."

This is a watercolor painting on muslin using Neocolor II. It was machine quilted with black thread and embellished with Swarovski crystals.

The rose was considered the "messenger of emotions" during the restrictive society of the Victorian era. The most popular color is the red rose, which symbolizes "passionate and abiding love." In contrast, the white rose is a symbol of "innocence, purity and virtue." The red rose and the white rose also represent "power."

The pink rose represents an admiration for "beauty, refinement, enduring grace, joy, pride and deep affection." In situations where there are no suggestions of love, the pink rose represents gratitude, appreciation and recognition.

Combining different rose colors also has significance. The combination of white and yellow roses symbolize harmony; red and yellow roses represent happiness and celebration; red and white roses symbolize bonding and harmony.

The amount of roses one gives also has implications. A dozen roses symbolize "gratitude"; two dozen roses represent "congratulations"; and four dozen roses indicate "unconditional love."

Whether or not one chooses to observe these symbolisms, they are interesting observations. Who knows, this information may be the difference between a win or a loss in your next game of "Trivia." Okay, maybe not. Take time to "Smell the Roses." Enjoy!
