Crazy Quilt--ATC

Crazy Quilt, ATC, (2.5" x 3.5")
Fannie Narte

Crazy quilting was a Victorian craze, which began in the late 1800s. Women stitched beautiful assymetrical pieces of silks, brocades and velvet in an abstract arrangement. These quilts provided a perfect canvas for showcasing their embroidery skills. Seamstresses added intricate decorative stitches to the seams such as lazy daisy, feather and herringbone.

After 1900, women used flannels, cottons and denims in their crazy quilts. Their pieced quilts were simple and often didn't include embroidery embellishments.

This ATC was made from cotton fabric. I added glass beads and pearls to some of the decorative stitches.

Have a great weekend!

This is a very pretty ATC. I'll bet you made this as an individual piece. I made some but they are really crazy- I made a strip trying things out and then cut it into ATC and inchie sized pieces. They don't come out quite as pretty that way.

Hi, Dove. Yes, it's handstitching.

You're right, Freebird. I did make this as an individual piece. But I'll venture into making a larger piece and cutting it into smaller ATC-sized pieces . . . at a later time. Inchie-sized pieces? Wow, that's great! Good for you!

Hi, Kate. Nice to see you. Hope you had a nice weekend too.

Lisa, it does look like a fan, doesn't it. Thanks for pointing that out. I didn't see it until now. Thanks.

Hi, Jacq. No big plans--just spend time with family and maybe do some cleaning. ;-0

Hi, Brigitte. Good to see you. Thanks for visiting.

Thanks, Diana and Melissa. Isn't it great that there's so many different media out there for us to play with? Thanks for your comments.

Hey, Noel. I imagine your postcards are lovelies, and whoever is lucky enough to receive them will have treasures. Note for future ATC making: If you make a crazy quilt that is 5" x 7" in size and cut it in half, you'll get two ATCs. ;-B
