Gratitude, Mixed Media on Canvas Panel, 5" x 7"
© 2009 Fannie Narte

This painting is my attempt at painting loosely, leaving imperfections, representing real life. It is also my response to the last chapter of the book blogging group: Next Chapter: 12 Secrets of Highly Creative Women with Jamie Ridler, a certified professional co-active coach. I am grateful to have found this group through my friend and fellow blogger, Jacq.

Have you ever
had occasion
to meet someone for the first time,
and you chat,
and you learn that you have many similarities,
and you share ideas,
and you learn,
and you giggle and laugh,
and you feel excited about finding your new friend,
a kindred spirit,
and you share your thoughts and ideas,
and your new friend understands you,
and you feel validated?

Certain books make me feel that way, such as the book by Julia Cameron titled "The Artist's Way." 12 Secrets of Highly Creative Women had the same effect upon me. I learned new ideas to help me become more creatively productive and overcome staring at a blank canvas or page. Hearing stories about what other artists do in situations that are familiar somehow feels validating and makes me feel "not alone," makes me feel "visible."

Being a part of a blogging group with like-minded readers adds a sense of community to the experience, and Jamie is an encouraging, gentle and motivating host. I appreciate the professional and caring way she led us from one chapter to the next moving all of us along. People were free to participate as much or as little as they wanted.
