Generational Silhouettes--Fiber Art

Generational Silhouettes, Fiber Art, 9" x 12" art quilt mounted onto an 11" x 14" painted gallery canvas

Generational Silhouettes is one of four pieces for the 2010 Art in Fiber Show. This is my first participation in a juried exhibit, and the owners of the gallery make this an enjoyable and enriching experience. Thanks Debbie and Gerald!

Choosing a title is a fun process. Finding a few powerful words that embodies the meaning of my piece is always challenging.

Leaves remind me of seasons and changes. With the passage of time, the new takes center stage and the old fades into the background becoming shadows of what was once new. This piece symbolizes everything that changes over time--the family, family members, friendships, friends, ideas and beliefs, technology, economy, traditions . . .

We may think alone, but we do not live alone. Our lives overlap one another, our words and actions have the power to affect the future. We help build a better future by sharing our experiences and empower the next generation, and gracefully stand in their shadows.

Standing in the shadows of the next generation . . .
