Listen For Our Song -- AAQI Quilt #9911

Listen For Our Song, Mixed Media Art Quilt, 8" x 10"
© 2012 Fannie Narte

"Listen for our song.
There you will find our memories, my heart, and our love."
~Fannie Narte

Music is a universal language that connects hearts, hardened hearts, grieving hearts, and even hearts that are broken by the effects of Alzheimer's.  Watching a loved one suffer the effects of this cruel and debilitating disease leaves caregivers feeling helpless and hopeless. Losing someone you love one memory at a time is "sad."

In between those lapses of memory, there are moments of clarity, moments when our loved ones remember, even if just for a second or two.  A song is playing . . . raised brows and twinkling eyes replace a vacant expression . . . they remember . . . you see that sparkle in their eyes . . . you connect . . . they see you . . . your hearts sing . . . they remember . . . your love.

This quilt is dedicated to my special friend, Jules, who understands.  Hugs and love to you, Jules!

Quilt Donation to the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative

This is my 57th quilt donation and so far my quilts have helped raise over $5,000.  Quilters across the nation and abroad are stitching their hearts into more quilts, which will be turned into more research dollars for their next grant.  Since 2006, the AAQI has raised more than $704,000 for Alzheimer's research and they're about to receive their 10,000th quilt!  I am grateful to be a part of the AAQI and hope we find a cure in my lifetime.

How I Made "Listen For Our Song"

This is a painting on fabric. The dress is an applique made from Batik. Her wings are made out of a combination of fused Angelina fibers and quilted with variegated metal thread. Her neckline has a row of lace, hand crocheted by me, which was embellished with tiny copper and lavender glass beads. She also wears a pearl necklace.

That is so beautiful and I love how you used mixed media to give it more depth and texture.
