The Annual Queen Lili'uokalani Canoe Race
The world's largest long distance outrigger canoe race is set for today, August 31 through September 2, 2013. Last night I took a few photos of the canoes all lined up, resting and ready for their race.
"Anuenue" means "rainbow" in Hawaiian.
There is excitement in the air and seeing all the canoes makes me think about the men and women of crews from seven countries: Australia, Canada, German, Japan, New Zealand, Tahiti, Singapore, and nearly 100 crews from U.S. including Arizona, California, Hawaii, Washington, and the many hours of practice and preparation it took to bring them to this point of competition. I admire and appreciate their dedication to this sport.
Good luck to everyone. Paddle well and have a safe and fun time. Imua!
